Dixon boys cross country hopes to repeat, cement itself as one of the best teams in 2A history on Saturday

Defending boys cross country state champion Dixon will be the team that everyone in Class 2A will have its eyes on Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria, site of this year’s IHSA meet.Ranked No. 1 all season, the Dukes have yet to be challenged by anyone in 2A and have also beaten most of the top teams in 3A. “Anything can happen,” Dixon coach Simon Thorpe said. “But, if we hold our places or better from last year, I like our chances.” Strange as it sounds, a state title is almost an afterthought for Dixon. The Dukes want to win in dominating style and cement their legacy as one of the elite teams in the history of 2A. “We think we can score 60-65 points,” Thorpe said. “If we run what we think we can run, we will be the best 2A team of all time.” In scoring 28 points in 2010, Belvidere North is considered the top squad in 2A. How close is Dixon to Belvidere? Among its five scorers, Belvidere North had an average time of 14:52, with its five state placers at 15 minutes and under. Coinci
